Recalibrating my essence
Refiguring the dance of life
Recognising my heart held aloft
As the world we have known is lost.

Finding strength in the present
Grounding each footfall with the next
A deliberate sense of acknowledging
That tyranny has lifted its head.

The hidden hand that moves in few
Crawled out from its darkened refuge
A turbulent swell becoming a surge
Magnetising the awareness of the helpless.

The resounding echo of my being
So forthright and fluid at the beginning
Of the year was now a vapid shimmer
A testament to my lack of direction.

I was a phantom of my former self
A whisper into a gale of anxiety and fear
Grasped in the whirlwind notion
That societies end was near.

Focusing on every breath
It was all I could do to remain
As earnest and real in gratitude
While the walls I’d created decayed.
